Statistics as a public good

Montréal

revised, not wrongFIG. B · DONNÉES PUBLIQUES

Behind every headline about children out of school is a chain of surveys, administrative records, models and revisions. At the UNESCO Institute for Statistics I work on that chain for SDG 4 — quality education for all.

Two principles guide how I share this work:

  • Reproducible by anyone. Each public project runs end to end on synthetic data, so a reviewer can check the method without needing access to anything restricted.
  • Protective by default. Restricted inputs and real-data outputs never enter a public repository. Openness is about methods and code; stewardship is about data.
